Where's Waldo?

So I purchased a few Where's Waldo books before coming back to Mexico this year and they have been a raging success. When kids are finished with their work, instead of constantly informing me that they are finished (which 99% of Mexican students do for some odd reason...) they grab a book and become completely immersed with finding Waldo. Works wonders! Except when I am equally as intrigued and end up wasting 10 minutes trying to track down that blasted scroll... gets me every time!!!

Three Cups of Tea

I recently finished reading Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. It is a truly inspirational story about a mountaineer whose path unexpectedly took a turn when he wandered into the town of Korphe in Pakistan after a failed attempt at climbing the K2 summit. He recognized an intense need for resources and education in this area and actually did something about it. His journey didn't stop there either. What is amazing about the main player in this story is that he is still on this mission for education in the suppressed areas of Northern Pakistan and Afghanistan today. As a teacher and believer in education as the remedy for global misunderstandings and hope for world peace, this book was a testament to what people can do together with strength, determination, and faith. I would highly recommend it to anyone not only because of its important message but also because of what it teaches the reader about the Middle East, politics, and humanity.

Fantasy books

So I have just started the 4th book in the Twilight series, Breaking Dawn. What is it about fantasy books that's so damn addicting? I guess we all just have an inner yearning for the unnatural... who doesn't want to read minds, fly, see the future, and constantly battle evil? I wouldn't want to have access to everyone's mind though~ think Mel Gibson in What Women Want~ yikes! Some things are better left unknown. Anyway, I'll let you know how it turns out. Right now, I'm rooting for Jacob Black. Bella, do you really want to live forever?? I don't care if you're gonna be able to spend forever with your "one true love." In fact, that almost makes it worse. We all know the honeymoon phase fades out pretty quickly...
