It's the kind of music that sticks with you. Like when I'm listening to a song and I have to turn it off mid-way, my mind doesn't let it go til I hear it again all the way through. Powerful stuff, I'm telling you. Download Introducing Palace Players, Beach, Special and Am I Wry? No if you know what's good for you.

Santigold
Just can't seem to get enough of Santigold these days... I don't know if its because she's on my Recently Added playlist or what but I am lovin' it as McD's fans around the world would say. I am particularly obsessed with L.E.S. Artistes, Shove It, and You'll Find a Way.

Mariachi Madness
I am rudely awakened by the off-pitch blares of a trumpet last night around 12:30 a.m. WTF is that?! I go out on my porch and find a Mariachi band serenading the neighbors. At first I thought to myself, oh, que dulce. A nice little concert for the lovebirds. That is until they continued playing until approximately 1:10. And the best part, the couple was making out the whole time! 10th grade movie theater style. Get some! But please, let me get some sleep too!

Michael Jackson
A post to commemorate the one and only Michael Jackson. He died today at the age of 50 after suffering from cardiac arrest. I don't think his music will ever go out of style... I've been listening to it all night and have found myself singing along and dancing in front of the mirror as a direct result. Remember old times with my favorite videos, Do You Remember the Time and Black or White.

The Foals

The Foals. Self-described music that is "just different." A true statement in my opinion. Different in a good way. Their music is addictive but not upon first listen. It's got a Talking Heads/Bloc Party twist going on. My friend here in Mexico told me that they were scheduled to play in Mexico City but in the end there wasn't a high enough demand. Disappointing to say the least. Check out Balloons, Hummer, Dearth and Gold Gold Gold asap.

Coldplay En Vivo
While I was back in the U.S. I went to a Coldplay concert at the Virginia Beach Ampitheater. It was an incredible show. I have seen many a' concerts in my day and this was one of the best live performances I have ever seen. The music was great but the props and videography were just as good. It really was a show, not just a concert. They played an amazing set and their signature crescendos kept the crowd mesmerized throughout. The best part was when they relocated to the lawn... I don't know exactly how they were so conspicuous about it but after a set break they miraculously appeared a mere 100 yards from the nosebleed seats that my friends and I were in. They sang a few acoustic versions of songs including a cover of the Beattle's "I'm a Believer" which was pretty amazing. Here are a few pics for your viewing pleasure. VIVA Coldplay!!!

MX BEAT 2009
MX Beat 2009: an amazing festival in Mexico City this weekend featuring such acts as Vampire Weekend, N.E.R.D., Primal Scream, Black Kids, Calvin Harris and Etienne de Crecéy. Read about the many more artists here.
I went to the festival with a few friends from Pachuca. The music was incredible especially considering my deprivation of this sort of event since coming south of the border. People were clad in hipster attire and I couldn't resist! Yay for plaid shirts and skinny jeans. But we were definitely still in Mexico... tacos were about the only snacks you could get, beers were $1, and Pharrell was enticing the crowd with chants of me gusta. I dug the electronic tent a lot although I can't say which artists were which in there. Vampire Weekend was fantastic live as I suspected they would be... they played a new song, White Sky, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
My favorite act of the night was Calvin Harris, an electronic genius and recently added to my top 5 favorite artists of the month. I just can't get enough of Disco Heat. Listen to it here. Glorious! The music and light show were incredible even sans mind-inducing drogas. Check out the state of the art cube technology of Etienne de Crecéy here. Hot damn! Our group had amazing dance skills too, especially by the end of the night. I was pleased to meet some fellow crazed dancers of Mexican descent ;)
